Can Google Truly Make Quality Content King of The Web?

My short notes to this excellent article by Titus Hoskins “Can Google Truly Make Quality Content King of The Web?”

The original of the article can be found here, while I’d like to outline several things sounded important to me:

  • with every new Google’s algorithm implementation, there are some web masters, some web sites which are down in SERP and those who benefit. Are there the ones, who benefit from any Google’s changes under any scenario? I’d say yes – those who constantly build quality, original content. And… not spreading that content on many different sites. Well, we are not in much of control who borrows our content, but at least submitting it to numerous free directories with a purpose to get lots of backlinks from republished articles, is not a good idea anymore.
  • quote “all sites come with their own unique keyword ranking “DNA,” which means they optimized for those keywords and any keyword related content which is added to those sites will rank higher in the search engines, especially Google.”
  • the author Titus Hoskins says about Buzzle article directory deciding to accept original quality articles only. And what he saw is steadily increasing number of visitors to Buzzle over years while other free directories have significant flow in visits. Why? The answer is obvious. Control quality.
  • this seems to be important to memorize:
  • “Obviously, they (search engines) can use such factors as
  • bounce rates
  • time spent on-site
  • pageviews per visitor
  • direct access
  • backlinks from authority sites
  • … and bookmarks in the social media/networking sites.
  • I would add that it is important who you link TO…
  • “Let’s face it, if a piece of content has 2,000 re-tweets, it must contain something of interest/quality for a lot of people. Likewise, if a piece of content or video has 5,000 comments attached to it and 10,000 Diggs or Likes… chances are good that it is of high quality.”
  • Further the author talks about on-page factors, which, in my opinion, were and are extremely important and pretty often underestimated by many webmasters chasing a “quick and big results”
  • “of course, there is also the technological/mechanical side to site quality. If a site loads slowly and has countless dead links, then it can be easily ranked as low quality. Google has always maintained a user/surfer’s experience is important to what it lists in its results. Content farms and sites with little or no unique content would probably be high on Google’s líst of what not to display.”

My thought is Google also tried to eliminate this popular model: big article directory, lots of traffic, lots of AdSense and other affiliate links to gain high earnings. Maybe Google sees that those who read free article directories are bad potential customers for the businesses who place advertisements? Could be as the main motive is always money..

And along with quality organic search results Google must provide quality environment for their AdWords advertisers.

My emphasis in this short review is not on whether Google can really do quality content the king of the web, but rather on reminding and pointing out to quality SEO practices..
